An accordion consists of two parts, the treble, which is the melody section, and the bass, connected by a bellows. By pulling the two parts apart and pushing them together, air is moved in the bellows and forced through the reed blocks in the two side sections. This creates different notes, depending on which keys or buttons are pressed. The "sailor's piano", as it is also known, became very popular with sailors because it was easy to transport, yet could produce very varied notes and melodies. Through sailors, it spread around the world and became a vehicle for musical folklore.
As the accordion is available in a variety of designs, which also differ greatly in size, the instrument can also be played by younger children. Our experienced Accordion teachers support you in choosing the right instrument. If you are not yet sure whether you have enough sailor in you to be a Ship's piano you can play it in a free Trial lesson try it out without obligation.
